Kat Eaton has released her debut album Talk To Me, which shows a self-confident and talented musician. The ten tracks full of soul & blues directly lead us to hope for more music from the Londoner.
Unfortunately, the recommendation of the album got a bit lost when it was released in July 2021. Now there had been time to listen to it more carefully. The London-based musician has released a great album with her ten tracks. Lovers of new soul and modern blues will definitely get what they expect to hear.
Kat Eaton succeeds in spreading a pleasant lightness with her ten pieces. Lyrics and melodies are arranged in a classical way and tell about current topics like love and loss or mental health. The tracks do not lack sophistication. The title Talk To Me, for example, is characterised by a wonderful background choir, which emphasises the vocal power of the singer with piano accompaniment.
Slow Down is skillfully accompanied by guitar and brass. The song is about a journey into the unknown, viewed from a back seat drive. A song written for those moments when you want to stop time to enjoy the day. Melancholic without being kitschy, Kat Eaton sings: “Let`s slow this whole thing down” and speaks from our souls in the stressful times.
With Put Yourself In My Arms, the musician adds a touch more verve to her repertoire before closing the debut with a mix of RnB and gospel on Out Of The Rain. The ten tracks offer a fresh and enjoyable mix of many styles in soul, RnB and blues. From time to time I have the feeling to hear a touch of country. In addition, there is an outstanding voice and beautifully arranged melodies.
Together with co-writer, producer and long-time partner Nick Atkinson, a work has been created that contains the classic vintage sound thanks to live instrumentation. Highly praised by numerous colleagues at the BBC, Kat Eaton is now also up there in our recommendation list. Let’s hope that after her gigs supporting bands such as The Teskey Brothers, and Mama’s Gun, she will come to us with a tour of her own.
Overall, the album is wonderfully rounded and entertaining at the same time. Talk To Me does not sound like a hesitant debut, but shows that Kat Eaton is ready to present her years of experience to us in an independent and perfectly formed way.
