Marla & David Celia stehen für leichten, etwas verträumt anmutenden FolkPop. Ein gehöriger Schuss Retro-Sound und ein harmonischer Zweistimmiger Gesang runden die Musik des Duos ab. Ihr im Herbst erschienenes Album Indistinct Chatter möchte ich euch symbolisch unter den Weihnachtsbaum legen.
Mein erstes persönliches Highlight auf Indistinct Chatter findet sich gleich zu Beginn mit Clowns Everywhere. Man könnte meinen dieser Titel beziehe sich auf ein durchaus verrücktes Jahr, was hinter uns liegt. Weiter Aufhorchen ließ mich auch Colours of the Rainbow. Das Stück erinnert mich stark an die Songs des Duos Sea + Air, die ich auch gern höre.
Wer sofort nach den Liedern Ausschau für die Reise ins Traumland hält, wird bei zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Nummern fündig. Einmal dem sehr melodischen Little Bird und dann Childhood Dream. Das Album endet mit Love of Life, einem schönen Song, dessen Ursprüngen man eher in den 60er oder 70er Jahren vermuten würde. Ich persönlich schließe mit Lied Nummer fünf, welches den passenden Titel Goodbye trägt.
Wer über die Feiertage angenehme ruhige Musik jenseits der üblichen Weihnachtssongs sucht, ist bei Marla & David Celia sehr gut aufgehoben. Wir haben das Duo nach ihrem Highlights in 2021 gefragt und um einen Ausblick in das kommenden Jahr gebeten. Zusätzlich haben sie uns auch ihre Lieblingssongs verraten, die sie durch das Jahr begleitet haben.
Konzert-/ Livemusik-Highlight 2021:
We’re booked to play at Mariposa Festival in Ontario, Canada. It’s a Folk Festival that has been going since 1961. Some well known musicians came to watch the festival including Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne and some of them were interested in performing, but the festival already had decided to focus on smaller acts. However, some of these people found their way on stage as guest performances after all. We’re absolutely stoked to play there!
Ausblick 2022:
We put out our new record “Indistinct Chatter” right after finishing our tour in October 2021. So we’re absolutely stoked to take the album on tour with us next year, perhaps with a band as oppose to a duo. There are already some shows lined up in France and a couple festivals in Canada in the summer. It’s a strange feeling to release a record and not be able to introduce it to audiences soon after. Therefore, the desire for us to perform live is huge, especially since it’s so much fun to play the new material.

1. Neil Young – Tell Me Why
Like so many other Neil Young songs, we’re drawn to the captivating soul of the vocals but also the deep yet profound message that leaves the us with so many possible interpretations of what he is singing about.
2. Sam Cooke – You Send Me
The gentle and warm sentiment in this song sends us both. This one not only inspires us for the music we make but also in the loving way we live life.
3. Jessica Pratt – Wrong Hand
Her gentle, melodic music and voice transport us. We’re especially fascinated by her chord changes which help entice this transcendence. There is so much beauty in her darkness
