News from Big Crown Records: The 5-piece soul band Surprise Chefs from Australia releases a new live video. After Money Music and A1 Bakery Pledge of Allegiance, the song Spring’s Theme from their current album Education & Recreation (2022) is now released – performed live at Diamond Mine Studio in New York.
As a lover of soul music, the band is a very special musical treat for me, as it sounds so wonderfully authentic. Inspired by 70’s film music, the quintet focuses on the “funkier side of jazz” and creates their very own sound in combination with hip-hop samples. They rely on a tried and true soul instrumentation of guitar, drums, bass, vibraphone and organ. Both song and video are kept simple, yet so captivating. You can hear and see that Surprise Chefs has intensively studied the art of soul music and is rightly no longer an insider tip.
